Porch Concert 07/27/07

I am in the process of archiving any of my shows I've done in the past. I will make them available to you for the cost of shipping and the actual cost of the CD. This total cost is 2.00. If you'd like me to send one to you, contact me at the email below and send me your address. I will then send a cd and trust you to send back the 2.00 for the shipping and materials. The CD will be shipped in an envelope and will be printed with the date of the show and setlist right on the CD.

Yes, there is actually about a ten year gap between shows, when I last played at Bemidji State University and when I played my first full show at Riverview United Methodist Church.

I will be slowly adding shows over the next few months.

The shows I plan to add are:
1984 - Live at Myron's (with the Mods - I sing everything and do about half the guitar solos - very sloppy but rather fun!
1984 - Rendesvous Room, Bemidji MN (my first ever solo gig).
March 1996 - Riverview United Methodist Church
1997 - Champlin United Methodist Church/Brooklyn UMC
1998 - Anoka Wesleyan Church
1998 - Pilgrim United Methodist Church
1998 - Rock Rapids (IA) Christian Church (ragged)
2000 - The New Union (very ragged show)
March 2002 - The New Union - complete (most of the Live CD came from this - includes extra songs "Rant", "Free To Be", "Beautiful Day."

And anything else I can find.

This is my third show at Bemidji State University while I was a student there. I do have one of my performance in the Rendezvous Room which will be forth coming. the show I played down in the student union wasn't recorded. This was, however, set up as a concert with free admission in a large room at BSU. We set up a stage, had lights, and this was decently recorded by Eric Allen, a dorm mate with perfect pitch. There are some songs not included, and they are "B-Side" by Loudon Wainwright III, "Friendly Divorce" by me, and "Two More Bottles of Wine" sung by Shawn Olson, and "Sad Lisa" by Cat Stevens with Leah Ramos on the piano. Each of these tracks had some problems with volume, clairty, or performance.. If I learned one thing here, it was to talk less. This is heavily edited and I believe that I spoke for at least a half hour's worth of time, which actually brought the length of the show to 90 minutes.

What is interesting here is to hear an early version of "Only Teasing," which eventially found its way onto my CD The Left Is Right .

Those who contributed to this were:

Stephen Berg: acoustic and electric guitar, vocals
Tracey Rhen: Piano on "You Get Bigger As You Go," "It Doesn't Matter," and "Only Teasing."
Shawn Olson: Lead vocals on "Lola" and "Easy From Now On"
Leah Ramos: Piano on "Long-time Love Song"
Stefanie Thelen: Lights
Eric Allen: Recording

Three of these people I have no idea whatever happened to. Tracey, Eric. or Stefanie, if you see this, let me know what you're up to!

This concert was the second at my home church of Riverview United Methodist Church. I am joined by my wife Erin Berg on keyboards. The only song that is missing is a train song that I sang with my son. This show was sparsely attended, as I remember only about 12-15 people there. My wife "opened" with a classical set of five songs, some by John Dowland.

The sound on this could be better - I miked everything as opposed to running direct with the guitar, and things are a little noisy. A couple of the songs could be better too, such as "Free To Be" suffers from some wrong notes. Other than the one missing song, this is the entire set that was played, and typical of the gigs I was doing. I was just a guy with a guitar and his wife.
